The robots, specifically animatronics and bots, are artificially-engineered mechanical entities created to automatically bring out a complex series of actions, appearing throughout the Five Nights at Freddy's franchise. They are invented and established by robotics industries, mainly Fazbear Entertainment, Inc., Afton Robotics, LLC, and Fazbear Funtime Service.

Types of Bots

  • Animatronics - They are far by the most recurring robots of the entire franchise. The animatronics are mostly created to look "life-like" in appearance to supposedly resemble actual living anthropomorphic creatures, which can be based on animals, humans, and even inanimate objects. They are designed with movable limbs, voice boxes, and covered by suit "armors" (made in fabric or plastic) to protect their endoskeletons. Commonly used for entertainment at public buildings (restaurants for example), they are also animatronics designed as electronic toys. Not every animatronics has full bipedal models, however. In Five Nights at Freddy's: Sister Location for instance, three human animatronic heads can be seen in the Primary Control Module location, possibly designed for testing facial expressions.
  • Electronic Toys - The electronic toys are a type of animatronics that appear smaller and designed as electro robotics toys, and sometimes conceived as merchandise. (Theodore, Ella, and Stanley are some of the examples of electronic toys.)
  • S.T.A.F.F. Bots - They are robots that perform careers as employees for human beings, serving as staffs, waiters, securities, cleaners, etc. They were first introduced in Security Breach, where they were engineered to work at Freddy Fazbear's Mega Pizzaplex.
  • Artificial Intelligence Voices - They are basically virtual assistants used to aid and perform tasks for the Fazbear Entertainment workers. (HandUnit is the most notable example of an AI voice.)
  • Androids - They are robots artificially invented to look and function in similar fashion to actual human beings. Although only canon to the novel trilogy universe, Henry Emily, as a way to bring back his daughter to life after her following death, built four robots, each replicating a stage of life. Charlie, representing his late daughter as a teenager, is the most notable android created by her father. With Ella representing Charlie as a toddler, Baby was supposed to represent Charlie as an adult, and also two of the four robots constructed by Henry. The robots are powered by a rag doll, which houses Henry's emotional energy. This doesn't apply to Baby however, since she was later possessed by Elizabeth Afton.

Trivia

  • The animatronics in the franchise seem to be different in design from real-life animatronics in a number of ways. This can be assumed to be done to make the game's events possible, however, there are many aesthetic difference that would not need to be changed in order to make maintain the game's possible reality.
    • While the animatronics in Five Nights at Freddy's series are clearly capable of walking, real-life animatronics would not be able to do this. This is because animatronics are controlled by additional mechanics that are installed into the floor. Since these extensions are part of the endoskeleton, Freddy and the others would have to dismantle themselves in order to leave the stage.
    • Actual Chuck E. Cheese's animatronics are not given any articulation below the hips in order to give them stability. The in-game animatronics have articulated knees, thighs, and ankles, which would make no sense from an engineering perspective.
    • Animatronics, by definition, are only supposed to perform specific actions. While the animatronics at Freddy's do use preset routes and positions, their movements are randomized and are implied to have some level of autonomy.
    • The animatronics' servos locking up from being stationary for too long makes little sense due to the way the servomotors function. They will more likely lock up due to jamming or loosen from overuse.
    • Freddy Fazbear's hat appears to be detachable. This would be near impossible in real life as it could slide off with the slightest movement. It is possible that the hat is attached by magnets and only falls off when enough force is applied, though this is unlikely due to it being detached in Parts/Service.
  • The animatronics were made by Fazbear Entertainment, Inc. (excluding animatronics from Sister Location and the Twisted and Funtime Animatronics created by Afton Robotics, LLC), but according to the novel trilogy, the original four animatronics were made by Henry Emily.
